System Preferences

• Create ~/Documents/Preferences/Proxy_EVA.pac, and Modify the System Preferences: NetWork to use this proxy file.

• Turn off the System Preferences: Web Sharing in order to make XAMPP work

Finder

• Install NuFile Softwares/System/System Utilities/NuFileInstaller2-0.pkg which put new file list to the right-click menu
• Customize Toolbar, put Path, New Folder, Connect on the Toolbar

sshfs

• sshfs integrate the sftp directory with Finder
• Download sshfs (or macfuse) and install it in /Applications/sshfs
• run

  /Applications/sshfs/bin/mount_sshfs augix@biocomp2 ~/picb/home5/

• Install Sapiens

Rootkit-Hunter

• Install it to search security issues

Stuffit Deluxe

• Install from boulo.local.:Softwares/System/Zip tool/StuffItDeluxe11.0.1Serial/StuffIt Deluxe 11.0.1.dmg to ~/Applications/

Screen Sharing

• Make an alias for /System/Library/CoreServices/Screen Sharing.app, put it in ~/Applications.

• Run

  defaults write com.apple.ScreenSharing ShowBonjourBrowser_Debug 1

  to enable Bonjour Browser for Screen Sharing.

• Run

  defaults write com.apple.ScreenSharing 'NSToolbar Configuration ControlToolbar' -dict-add 'TB Item Identifiers' '(Scale,Control,Share,Curtain,Capture,FullScreen,GetClipboard,SendClipboard,Quality)'

  to enable the Secret Toolbar. This toolbar contains:
  • Switch between control and observe mode
  • Share mouse and keyboard with user
  • Lock computer screen while you control
  • Capture screen to a file
  • Fit screen to full display
  • Image Quality

Growl

• Install
• New_Mail_Gowl.scpt

Fonts

• Copy Augix.collection and Chinese.collection from boulo.local.:~/Library/FontCollections/ to ~/Library/FontCollections/

Unix

• Write ~/.bashrc. .bashrc on Mac OS X
• Write ~/.ssh/config. ~/.ssh/config
• Vim

cp /usr/share/vim/vim70/vimrc_example.vim ~/.vimrc

Terminal

Change preferred window style to Novel, change font to Andale Mono 13 pt..

Work related

Projects folder

• Copy boulo.local.:~/Projects/ to ~/Projects/.
• Copy boulo.local.:~/Programming/ to ~/Programming/.

Coda

• Install Coda from to ~/Applications/
• Copy boulo.local.:~/Library/Application Support/Coda/ to ~/Library/Application Support/, this copy the "Modes" folder for Coda.
• Create a Site named "RZG", that's the garching machine.

iTerm

• Install iTerm /Volumes/mac/augix/Softwares/Network/Remote control/iTerm_0.9.5.dmg into /Users/augix/Applications/
• The Terminal is improved in Leopard. So, there's no need to install iTerm.

Yummy FTP

• Copy Yummy FTP from Softwares/Network/Download/ to ~/Applications/
• Make a bookmark for eva001.opt.rzg.mpg.de:/nfs/eva/augix/cDNA using SSH Tunelling
  • server: localhost
  • port: 7777
  • username: augix
  • password: ********
  • initial path: /nfs/eva/augix/cDNA
• Make a bookmark for ftp.rzg.mpg.de

R

• Install R from Softwares/Science/R-2.6.1.dmg to /Applications

Office

• Install Microsoft Office 2008 on /Applications/. source: Softwares/Office/Office2008.dmg

Voodoopad

• Install VoodooPad Pro 3.2.3 into ~/Applications/. source: Softwares/Office/VoodooPadPro3.2.3.dmg

BibDesk

• Copy boulo.local.:/Applications/BibDesk.app to ~/Applications/
• Copy boulo.local.:/Users/augix/Documents/BibDesk/ to ~/Documents/
• Configuration: File papers in fixed location: ~/Documents/BibDesk/Papers/

Dictionary

• One can install new dictionaries in the application Dictionary by using a software called DictUnifier.

Address Book

• Extract the Address Book Data in Tiger.

• Birthday in iCal and Address Book

Turns out iCal has a preference called 'Show Birthdays Calendar' which pulls its data from the 'birthday' field in the address book (the birthday field is not in the default template, we have to add it).

Mail

• Create my email accounts
• Open Mail, click File - Import Mailboxes to import mails from Boulo.local.:~/Mail/
• Backup Mail Preferences: Accounts, Rules, Signatures...
• New_Mail_Gowl.scpt

Delicious Library

• Install it
• Copy files in old library: ~/Library/Application Support/Delicious Library/

XAMPP

MediaWiki

• Install MediaWiki
  • Copy mediawiki-1.6.10 form Softwares/Network/Server/mediawiki-1.6.10.tar into /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/htdocs/, untar it. Delete mediawiki-1.6.10.tar.
  • change folder name from mediawiki-1.6.10 to wk
  • Open Safari, go to http://localhost/wk/

  • cd /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/htdocs/wk

  • chmod a+w config

  • Open Safari, go to http://localhost/wk/, and fill the form Site config
  • Move the config/LocalSettings.php file into the parent directory
  • Delete /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/htdocs/wk/config

• Configure MediaWiki
  • Replace /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/htdocs/wk/images by Boulo.local:/Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/htdocs/wk/images
  • Move MediaWiki from Boulo.local to the new machine.

CGI-Executables

scp -r boulo.local:/Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/*  /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/cgi-bin/

Backup

iWeb

• Copy files in boulo.local.:~/Application Support/iWeb/ to ~/Sites/iWeb

MarsEdit and NetNewsWire

• Copy files from boulo.local:~/Library/Application Support/ to ~/Library/Application Support/
• These two applications need to be installed

Keychains

• How to backup this? I don't know yet.

Widgets

• It's in ~/Library/Widgets/, just copy and paste

Keynote

• Themes in ~/Library/Application Support/iWork/Keynote/Themes/

aMule

• Make sure that ~/Library/Application Support/aMule/server.met is backupped

Yojimbo

• ~/Library/Application Support/Yojimbo/
